The GM May 29 $72 Call was entered at $2.125. As GM rallied sharply over the next two trading sessions, we locked in profits on half the position at +58.8%, then sold the remaining half at +100.0% the following day. By scaling out into strength, the trade generated a total realized gain of +79.4%. |
The reason it worked so well was: |
GM made a strong move higher in a short period of time. The $72 strike was near the stock price at entry, so the option quickly accumulated intrinsic value. Only 10 days remained until expiration, creating high gamma and amplifying the option's response to the stock move. We took profits in stages, capturing gains while reducing risk instead of trying to pick the exact top.

That last point is important. |
A lot of traders see the 100% gain and think that's the trade result. In reality, the disciplined partial exit is what produced the realized +79.4% return, which is arguably the better story because it demonstrates risk management rather than luck. |
