If you didn’t know, one of the biggest catalysts in my career was Weight Watchers and Oprah. Way back when Oprah joined the board of the company — now WW International Inc. (Nasdaq: WW) — and shares were around like $7, she grabbed a ton of headlines by taking a big stake in the company.
I had never thought much about the company. In fact, a lot of people didn’t even know it was a public stock. But when I saw that Oprah was getting involved, I made my whole trading and investing strategy about Oprah Winfrey.
Going in, about the only thing I knew about her was that my grandma used to watch her show. But, I thought, “Hey, she’s putting millions and millions of dollars in the stock, why don’t I invest in it?”
Within six months the stock was a ten-bagger, as they say. I would go on Twitter and I was part of trading groups and trading rooms at the time, and I gained recognition for being THE Weight Watchers trader. I would go to the grocery store and get Weightwatchers and eat it all week. I made more money in a trade than I did in all my years of working prior, so it was really life-changing.
Now Oprah and WW have hit the scanners again and I just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to jump back in. Will it work again? Only time will tell, but I will never not get pumped to see her name hit the tape! You can check out the video below to see what The Big O is up to …
