In 1995, I started writing Wall Street Winners for KCI Communications. Nobody knew how well it would do. Would anybody read it? What would the performance be? Would we make money for our readers?
But we were pretty confident and we ended up the first year making really good money for our readers. Hulbert Digest ranked us in the top 25% of all newsletters. Good, but not great.
We did it again the next year. We make good money for our readers. Once again, we were in the top 25% of newsletters.
But now starts the interesting thing. If you are in the top 25% for two years, you are in the top 5% for two years!
Other newsletters would do great one year but not the next year! They weren't consistent at all. But Wall Street Winners Just kept doing very well every single year.
But the end of the third year, we had the best performing newsletter for three years, then four years and then five years.
We were never number one for one year but we consistently made money for. our readers year after year.
So the publisher hired one of the best copywriters in the world to create a promo for the newsletter. He went through everything we did and he asked me about this purple colored line that I had on all my charts. I said that was the on balance volume line. He asked how I used it. And I explained it to him.
He got very excited about it! I'm sitting there thinking that this is something I've used for years to make money and to create the incredible track record. But when you use something every day, it becomes ordinary. He had never seen it so he saw the value in it.
I stopped thinking about it until a few weeks later they showed me the copy for the new promotion.
The copywriter went on and on extolling the incredible value of the Purple Predictor! I was intrigued. What was the Purple Predictor?
Turns out that it was my on balance volume line that i had colored purple. He took the color and gave it a name, the Purple Predictor. lol.
I kinda like the name and I've been using it ever since!
Of course, I don't want anyone to think that I invented it. Joe Ganville did. But I have taken what Joe invented and made it my own with my own ways to use and profit from it.
