Hello,
In the 1970's I traded much like most people except that myself and my partner did a lot of research into seasonal price tendencies. A seasonal price tendency is when the price of something does the same thing just about every year.
For example, the stock market usually rallies from October to the end of the year.
But, in the 1980s, I really started to study fundamental analysis. I went deep into it. I created a series of 27 leading indicators of the stock market. Let me repeat that. I developed 27 indicators that told you where the stock market was going to go before it went there.
I put a lot of them into a chapter in a book written by Jack Schwager (click here to order).
Those leading indicators took my trading to a much higher level.
More importantly, I was now seeing what was really going on not what most people thought was going on. Let me give a great example.
What do you think happens to the stock market when earnings are growing very rapidly, say 20% or more? Should be a big bull market, right? Wrong. The stock market usually takes a dive when earnings are growing super rapidly.
What?
I know, I was shocked by this as well until I analyzed it and realized what was going on. You see, if stock market earnings are skyrocketing then the economy is going great guns. So what happens? The Fed tightens monetary policy and the stock market dives.
This is a great example of where I learned what is really going on and coming to a completely different conclusion than the rest of the market.
