McFadden found a Jan. 6 patriot not guilty. On four misdemeanor accusations of disruptive behavior and trespassing, Matthew Martin, a Los Alamos, N.M.-based Energy Department contractor who lost his job after being arrested, was found not guilty. "People were streaming in and the officers made no attempt to stop people at the door … I do find the defendant reasonably believed the officers allowed him into the Capitol," ruled Judge McFadden. It's not so much that Martin persuaded McFadden that he was waved into the building that's noteworthy, but that a USCP official confessed under oath that officers let individuals in.
