All that I knew was that Memorial Day was when everyone went to the beach  and summer vacations began, and I would get invited to people's backyard  BBQ parties.
Only during those BBQs did I learn about what Memorial Day was — hearing about uncles, brothers, family who had served in Vietnam, Korea, and grandfathers who had served in WW2.
Sacrifices of lives, sacrifices of time served. Still, everyone was there to celebrate, to live, to smile, to eat, to be with friends, family.
And God, the amount of food.  Amazing.
For someone from India, we just never had that much food or that much choice in what to eat and drink. Heaven for someone like me who was always hungry because I was always skimping on food in college.
Just some remembrances.
But today, we’re thinking of you. You are extensions of our families. You believe in us, and we believe in you.
