Sprott Physical Uranium Trust (SRUUF)

Dear Louis,

I wanted to provide a quick update on our latest “Near Future Diversifier,” the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust (SRUUF).

We recommended the fund on Monday as a pureplay on the looming uranium bull run. For subscribers who missed the issue, you can catch up here.

Since publishing the research, we’ve received a few questions from readers along the lines of:

Dear Jeff,

I loved your recent report on the uranium shortage. As an American, I am unable to buy SRUUF through my account with TD Ameritrade as it is a Canadian ETF. I’m sure other American subscribers are having the same problem.

What do you recommend?

Best regards,

Jerry G.

I had a member of my team investigate this (to avoid any conflicts of interest I do not purchase any investments I recommend), and we discovered that TD Ameritrade is unable to place trades for SRUUF at this time.

When we spoke to the representative, she seemed surprised. She could only speculate, but it’s possible that the upcoming merger between TD Ameritrade and Charles Schwab might be the root of the problem.

It is possible that TD Ameritrade is updating their systems to the “Schwab way,” as the representative put it. Somewhat surprisingly, TD’s “ThinkorSwim” trading platform does appear to be able to execute the trade.

To be clear, SRUUF is a security that trades over the counter (OTC) in the U.S. The Sprott Physical Uranium Trust also trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the tickers U.U. (US$) and U.UN (CA$).

Any Brownstone Canadian subscribers can easily purchase the trust on the TSX. And whatever the issue may be with TD Ameritrade at the moment, any U.S. based subscribers should be able to easily purchase the security OTC on one of the other brokerage platforms like Fidelity, E-Trade, or Schwab.

Thanks to Jerry and all the other readers who brought this to our attention as I'm sure that a few more encountered the same issue.

Hope you have a great weekend,

Regards,

Jeff Brown
