HELP! Will 2023 be any better?!

Marc Lichtenfeld | Chief Income Strategist | The Oxford Club

Marc Lichtenfeld

Dear Wealthy Retirement Reader,

2022 was a no good very bad year for the stock market.

The worst, in fact, since the financial crisis in 2008.

But will 2023 be any better?

Let's take a look at what the "insiders" are saying…

  • Morgan Stanley's chief investment officer, Michael Wilson predicts the S&P will drop to between 3,000 and 3,300 in the first quarter – before rebounding to 3,900 by year end.
  • Scott Ladner, chief investment officer at Horizon Investments says he expects a 10% decline in the S&P's earning-per-share over the coming months – followed by a pretty "juicy" back half of 2023.
  • And Main Street Research's chief investment officer, James Demmert says that while there may be further weakness in the first part of 2023, he believes the year will end with significantly higher stock prices.

And as for me…

My research leads me to believe will see a few more months of tough slogging in the markets, followed by a bottom that will occur just as a mild recession is taking place.

After that, I believe the market should be rather strong for the remainder of 2023.

See a pattern?

It looks like the expectation we can all agree on for the New Year is recession… recovery… and rebound.

Of course, there are several different ways you can protect yourself – and profit – through each of these potential phases.
