Big AI Profits on the Edge and in the Cloud

ChatGPT and artificial intelligence (AI) infiltrated the world's biggest event for the telecom industry. Everyone from chipmakers to mobile carriers were eager to talk about their achievements and ambitions in AI-powered tech.

More than 2,000 exhibitors gathered in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress (MWC), including U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm (QCOM). It showed off its "edge computing" chips.

The company – the world's leading mobile chip developer – gave a live demonstration of a device that can turn simple verbal descriptions into fully realized pictures in just 15 seconds. This is an example of generative AI, similar to that which powers ChatGPT.

But here's the real selling point of the demonstration, according to Qualcomm: The computing processes were carried out entirely on the device. It did not have to rely on cloud computing power.

The demonstration is proof that a mobile processor can handle the massive computing workloads involved in AI, said Don McGuire, chief marketing officer of Qualcomm Technologies.

He added "AI on the edge is really important." He was referring to the ability of devices to handle computing processes without an internet connection.

McGuire also had a forecast: "66% of data produced by 2030 is not going to the cloud, it will be at the edge."

One advantage of edge computing, he said, is cost. "The need to go to the cloud for every ChatGPT query is going to suck such a big amount of power, which could put a lot of stress on data centers and cost a lot of money."

If there is enough demand, then features like the one Qualcomm demonstrated at MWC could be commercialized in Qualcomm's next generation of application processors and used in smartphones.

Microsoft was also in attendance at MWC. It showcased a cloud-based AI management system for telecoms operators to streamline network management and improve customer service. AT&T showed real interest in this product.

Speaking of Microsoft, the investment bank Oppenheimer had some interesting things to say recently.

It said: "There are decades where nothing happens, and weeks when decades transpire. We’re clearly in the latter”. This was after Microsoft announced mobile versions of its AI-powered Bing and Edge browser apps.

Oppenheimer added: “MSFT estimates that 64% of searches occur on mobile phones, so today's announcement is logical and unsurprising in a methodical march to expand its existing $18 billion advertising business. MSFT won Netflix’s ad-tier exclusive from a standing start, so it is not to be underestimated.”

ChatGPT has taken the world by a storm. It’s become the most viral app ever – hitting 100 million users in just 2 months!

That’s why Microsoft is investing $10 billion. And Google is rushing to unveil its own Artificial Intelligence solution.

Fed Officials Issue New Warning

Two Federal Reserve officials just said that more aggressive interest rate hikes are likely necessary to tame inflation. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said that he’s “open-minded” about the Fed raising rates by 25 or 50 basis points at its next policy meeting on March 21-22. And Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic has a similar view. He believes the Fed needs to raise its rate by 50 basis points to 5%-5.25% – and hold it at that level until well into 2024. That's why this is a great time for income investors – higher rates mean higher income from every investment.

The Travel Boom of 2023

Tech Breakthrough That Will Change the World

Bill Gates kickstarted the home computer revolution 50 years ago. And now, after seeing the staggering success of ChatGPT, he says that ChatGPT and AI “will change the world.” Microsoft recently announced a $10 billion investment in OpenAI last month: the startup behind ChatGPT. The deal values OpenAI at $29 billion. Microsoft will get paid back 75% of its investment from OpenAI profits. And it will ultimately own 49% of OpenAI. Microsoft appears to be placing big bets on artificial intelligence. And its $10 billion investment in OpenAI is just the start. This major investment has ignited a new boom that could make early investors a lot of money.

New Sector to Unleash Torrent of Financial Opportunities

Banking giant UBS just said that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) market will become a trillion-dollar sector that unleashes a torrent of financial opportunities. We’ve had several headline-grabbing news in the AI sector recently. . .like Microsoft’s new $10 billion deal with OpenAI. . .and Google showcasing its AI technology called “Bard” in an event in Paris. The event didn’t go so well after Bard incorrectly answered a question, which sent Google shares crashing 10% - a erasing $100 billion of market value in 1 day.
