 1 Quick 20% Move Smells Like a Trap Editor’s Note: Every week, you watch stocks from industries across the board pop (or drop), but you may be wondering if it’s time to buy in. (Nasdaq: GOOGL): Google’s parent popped more than 9% this week after delivering in a huge way on earnings. It reported first quarter revenue at $74.6 billion, 7% higher than a year ago. It’s “Bullish” in our system now, and could go even higher from here.
- SNAP Inc. (Nasdaq: SNAP): On the negative side of tech earnings, social media stock SNAP sank 19% after projecting weak guidance for the rest of the year. That’s part of the reason it rates as “High-Risk” now.
- Roku Inc. (Nasdaq: ROKU): Be wary of this 20% pop… Roku, the streaming company that has made its way into many living rooms, gained big on Friday after reporting fewer losses than expected. That’s a nice one-day move, but Green Zone Power Ratings is waving a massive red flag.
- Tilray Brands Inc. (Nasdaq: TLRY): The fourth-largest cannabis stock by market cap, TLRY posted promising quarterly earnings, including a 20% boost to revenue year over year. That created a 27% gain in short order this week. But U.S. legalization is still the biggest hurdle for this “High-Risk” stock in our system.
- Proctor & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG): Consumer price hikes helped PG’s bottom line, sending it more than 3% higher on Friday (pretty good for a boring consumer staple stock!). If you’re looking for some stability the “Neutral” rating in Adam’s system says this is one to watch.
As you can see, tech earnings are catching some companies out after solid gains during the broader tech rally this year.
