Market Review:
Labor Day Holiday Market
For stocks the holiday is simple. The market was closed on Monday and opens this morning at 9:30am ET. In other words, there was no market on Monday. Futures markets are a little different. While technically there is no Monday trade date, the reality is a little more nuanced. The Futures market for Tuesday September 5, 2023, opened Sunday night, September 3. It traded until 1pm ET on September 4, and then halted. The market resumed trading at 6pm ET on September 4, and will continue trading until 5:00pm ET today. The open of the week in the futures market was 4521.25. The high so far is 4531.25, and the market has a low of 4500.00. As the stock market opens, we already have a long list of information we can use from the futures market to understand what today is telling us.
