🏀 Too hot, hot damn
The GIST: The short and spicy best-of-three first round WNBA playoffs delivered the heat this weekend, with one squad already punching their ticket to the semis and the others on the edge of first-round glory.
Yesterday's games: To no one's surprise, the No. 1 seed Las Vegas Aces are advancing to the semis for the fifth straight season, after sweeping the No. 8 Chicago Sky. Four Aces hit double-digit points in yesterday's 92–70 dub, led by reigning MVP A'ja Wilson, who scored 38 and notched 16 (!!!) rebounds.
- Meanwhile, the No. 6 Minnesota Lynx pounced on a lackluster defensive performance from the No. 2 Connecticut Sun yesterday, winning 82–75 and forcing Game 3 back in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
- The Lynx's Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride scored career playoff highs with 26 and 28 points, respectively, with Collier earning a double-double, despite being temporarily sidelined with back pain. Sheesh.
Tomorrow's games: After thrashing the No. 7 Washington Mystics 90–75 on Friday, the No. 2 NY Liberty can clinch a semis berth with a win tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET. If Libs superstar Sabrina Ionescu keeps drilling threes, it shouldn't be a problem.
- Shortly after, the No. 4 Dallas Wings will go for a series-clinching win against the No. 5 Atlanta Dream at 9 p.m. ET. Friday's back-and-forth tilt was the most dramatic postseason game yet, and something tells us that the Dream won't let the Wings shake off their first-round playoff curse too easily.
🏈 Week 2: Need to know
The GIST: While some of the brightest stars in the NFL found their footing in Week 2, others stand on shockingly shaky ground, proving this will be a season full of surprises. Let's dive in to yesterday's standout moments.
The Cincinnati Bengals are 0-2: After making a Super Bowl appearance two seasons ago, the Cats are starting the season in a two-game hole for the second consecutive year, with another just okay performance from TikTok heartthrob quarterback (QB) Joe Burrow, who re-aggravated a calf injury in yesterday's 27–24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
- QB Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos are also in the red, down 0-2 in 2023 and having lost 13 of their last 16 games. The head coach Sean Payton era isn't off to a great start.
Good news, inbound: Houston Texans wide receiver (WR) Canadian John Metchie III made his NFL debut (and first career catch) after missing his 2022 rookie season battling leukemia.
Ain't over 'til it's over: The NY Giants overcame a 20-point halftime deficit to defeat the Arizona Cardinals 31–28 yesterday, tying a franchise record for largest-ever comeback.
Beginners luck: LA Rams' WR Puka Nacua is the first rookie in NFL history to record 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards in each of his first two games. Remember the name.
Recovery update: Injured NY Jets QB Aaron Rodgers believes he could return by the playoffs this season thanks to an innovative Achilles tendon surgery.
- Of course, that would also require the Jets — who were trounced 30–10 by the Dallas Cowboys yesterday — to make it to the postseason…without him. A dash of perspective is important.

⚾ LA Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani's 2023 season (and likely Angels' career) is officially over. After suffering a torn UCL in his right elbow in August and an oblique injury earlier this month, Ohtani cleared out his locker on Friday ahead of becoming a free agent at the end of the season.
🎓🏈 Week 3 of the college football season was highlighted by the nail biting 43–35 then–No. 18 Colorado double overtime win over Colorado State. The Coach Prime effect is real.
🏎️ Ferrari's Carlos Sainz owned the podium at yesterday's Singapore Grand Prix, finally ending team Red Bull's 15 consecutive wins.

🇺🇲 It was a record-setting weekend at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, as Christian Coleman beat out fellow American and world champion Noah Lyles to win the men's 100m gold, while world champ Sha'Carri Richardson finished fourth in the women's 100m.
🚴 American Sepp Kuss won the Vuelta a España yesterday, becoming the first American to win a Grand Tour since 2013.
