Arm Holdings plc American Depositary Shares (NASDAQ: ARM) gained 25% on its first day of trading on Thursday.    The initial public offering (IPO) was the biggest technology offering of the year.    Many analysts think the success of the IPO will create an environment for more IPOs to hit the market in the coming months…  Instacart is already planning its IPO to begin trading tomorrow.    And after ARM's successful trading debut, Instacart has already increased its proposed IPO price.   But while I don't like to trade IPOs on their first trading day — because there are no levels to use to plan trades — after that, it's game on!    ARM is now going into its third trading day, so here's what I'm watching for…  The Pattern to Watch For In ARM ARM had a fantastic squeeze into the close on Thursday with a beautiful VWAP hold high of day break…    But on Friday the stock went sideways. Now it's setting up for one of the newest patterns I'm looking for…    So if you're wondering if there's more potential juice to squeeze out of ARM, let me show you what to look for today for a potential trade…   What's The Day Three Surge?    The day three surge pattern is a potent trading setup that thrives on market emotions.   It typically begins with a strong catalyst like earnings, a partnership announcement — or a hot IPO moving on hype — which propels a stock upward on day one.    On the second day, rather than continuing to climb, the stock trades sideways or consolidates, luring short-sellers into the belief that the rally has ended.    Then the real action unfolds on day three…   That's when I look for the stock to spike again, and break above the day one or two high.    This breakout traps short-sellers, who are forced to cover their positions, intensifying buying pressure and driving the stock's price even higher.    With an absolutely perfect day three surge, the stock won't break the day one high on day two, but consolidate sideways below it.    But not all patterns are perfect. There are variations and they all look different.    With ARM, it broke above the day one high on day two but it didn't continue higher. So now instead of looking for the stock to break the day one high, I'm looking at $68.50 as a key level.  That's right at the Oracle resistance level from Friday. Here's what the setup looks like in ARM… ARM chart: 2-day, 5-minute candle — courtesy of StocksToTrade.com Another variation of the day three surge pattern is for the stock to make its move on day four or five…    That means if ARM continues to go sideways today and hold the consolidation channel, there's still potential for it to break above key levels in the next couple of days.    The great thing about the day three surge is that you don't have to be glued to your computer screen all day to catch this pattern.    Making it perfect for part-time traders or those with busy schedules…    Just look for a big gainer with news or hype on day one. Then set an alert at or near the day's high.
