The Latest

NFL Monday Night Football

🏈 ...Ready for it?

The GIST: After a plethora of primetime football duds, tonight's 8:15 p.m. ET Super Bowl LVII rematch is poised to make the whole place shimmer when the guy on the (Kansas City) Chiefs (tight end Travis Kelce), one of the sexiest men alive (Philadelphia Eagles center and Travis' brother, Jason), and their respective squads battle it out on Monday Night Football (MNF).

Kansas City Chiefs: The reigning Super Bowl champs are sitting pretty atop the American Football Conference (AFC). And it isn't the offense that's doing the most damage: The squad's league-leading defense has set the tone this season, surrendering only 15.9 points per game.

  • That's not to say that quarterback (QB) Patrick Mahomes has lost his step. The two-time MVP and his partner-in-touchdowns (TDs) Kelce are still one of the most dynamic duos in the league — especially when Taylor Swift's in the stands.
  • But Taylor (who's also a known Eagles fan) won't be at Arrowhead Stadium tonight due to her rescheduled Eras Tour concert. Watch this space to see how her absence affects KC's offense.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Birds will be looking for redemption after last season's heartbreaking Super Bowl loss. QB Jalen Hurts and co. head into MNF boasting the NFL's best record but have yet to play their best football. That said, wide receiver (WR) A.J. Brown has been him, tallying 1K receiving yards on the season already.

  • On the other side of the ball, after dealing with an abundance of early-season injuries, the Eagles defense has been dominant (and healthy) as of late. They'll look to rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter and cornerback (CB) Darius Slay to stifle the KC attack.

Prediction: Much like last season's nail-biting Super Bowl (which featured a game-winning field goal in the final seconds), this one should also come down to the wire.

  • And despite losing TE Dallas Goedert to an arm fracture in Week 9, Philly might have a slight edge on the road thanks to their offensive depth. Baby, let the games begin.

Quick Hits: NFL WEEK 11 Edition

🤕 Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is out for the season

For the second time in his four-year NFL career, Joe Cool has suffered a season-ending injury. In 2020, he tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee, and during this past 34–20 Thursday Night Football loss to the Baltimore Ravens, he tore a ligament in his right wrist.

  • While losing TikTok heartthrob Burrow is a big loss for Cincy, let's not forget that in 2022, he returned from that knee injury to lead the Cats to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
  • Interestingly, this injury has also prompted an investigation by the NFL: Burrow was seen wearing a brace ahead of the game but was not on Cincy's injury list, prompting the inquiry. However, Burrow says the two incidents are unrelated. How…curious.

⭐ Dallas Cowboys CB DaRon Bland's record-setting Sunday

The NFL crowned Bland as its new interception king yesterday, after the CB logged his fourth pick-six of the season, tying a league record with seven (!!!) regular-season games remaining. He just goes and gets it.

  • In other TD news, Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud added two more (plus three interceptions…) to his season tally in their 21–16 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
  • And Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams scored his first TD since Week 3 in their 20–13 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

👊 Two players were ejected after a sideline brawl in the NY Giants 31–19 win over the Washington Commanders

Giants CB Cor'Dale Flott and Commanders WR Curtis Samuel were tossed out following a physical fight near Washington's end zone. The altercation was prompted by a late hit on Commanders QB Sam Howell, who was able to return to the game. Guess they took a page out of NBA star Draymond Green's book.

Buzzer Beaters

⚽ The USWNT's final roster of the year will drop later today, but unfortunately, attacking midfielder Catarina Macario probably won't be on it, as she continues to recover from a June 2022 ACL injury.

🎾 World No. 1 Novak Djokovic defeated Italian Jannik Sinner in straight sets yesterday to capture his record-breaking seventh career ATP Finals title, breaking his tie with legend Roger Federer.

South Korea's Amy Yang won yesterday's CME Group Tour Championship and its $2M winner's check. But she had to share the spotlight when the Tour later announced that American Lilia Vu won the 2023 Rolex Player of the Year.

🏎️ Red Bull's Max Verstappen sang his way across the finish line to collect his 18th win of the season in yesterday's glitzy (but controversial) Las Vegas Grand Prix, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Verstappen's teammate Sergio Pérez rounding out the podium.

🏈 No. 1 Georgia is still top dawg in the latest AP Top 25 college football poll, but Ohio State, who overtook Michigan for the No. 2 spot, is making moves ahead of Saturday's game against their Big Ten rival. Spicy.

🏀 LSU superstar Angel Reese did not travel to Friday's game against Southeastern Louisiana after being benched by coach Kim Mulkey earlier in the week. Mulkey declined to provide any details, simply calling the choice "a coach's decision."

🏑 No. 1 UNC field hockey won their second straight national championship yesterday, toppling No. 2 Northwestern 2–1 in a penalty shootout to hand 23-year-old head coach Erin Matson her first NCAA title as a coach in the process. Just Tar Heels doing Tar Heels things.
