When we founded The GIST in 2017, the industry looked very different compared to today. Women's sports and female athletes received less than 4% of sports media coverage, less than 14% of sports journalists were women, and female fans were seen as an afterthought.
The overwhelmingly male suits who held decision-making power constantly underestimated women's sports, female journalists, and diverse fandom, leaving a massive void. And that's where The GIST came in.
Reaching this milestone didn't come without hardships, but having 1 million subscribers undoubtedly proves the naysayers wrong.
One million of you show that centering diverse voices, providing equal coverage of men's and women's sports, and servicing all types of sports fans isn't only good business, it truly levels the playing field.
