When the market gets messy — and let’s be honest, 2025 has been nothing but messy — dividend investing really starts to shine.
That’s why I’m putting the spotlight today on Abbott Laboratories (ABT). It’s not flashy, it doesn’t get hyped up on social media, and it definitely doesn’t chase trends.
But it does deliver consistency… and that’s exactly what we want when the rest of the market is falling apart.
While the S&P 500 (SPY) has dropped about 10% so far this year, ABT is up 10%. That’s a 20-point gap — and in this environment, that kind of outperformance deserves attention.
Part of what makes Abbott so solid is its role in the Healthcare (XLV) sector.
When volatility picks up, investors tend to seek out essential, durable businesses. ABT fits the bill. Between its medical devices, diagnostic tools, and nutritional products, Abbott has its hands in multiple essential markets — and that diversification has helped it keep moving forward, even as the rest of the market stumbles.
