Dear Reader, |
The check cleared yesterday morning. |
$2,500. Not a fortune by any stretch. But for a guy who spent the last five years calling Bitcoin "digital tulips," it might as well have been my entire retirement account. |
I bought crypto. |
My nephew called me last weekend. Same nephew who's been pestering me about this stuff for months. |
"Uncle Glenn," he said, "you've been writing about Bitcoin for weeks now. You understand why it matters. You see what's happening with Trump's policies. What are you waiting for?" |
Good question. |
I've been sitting here analyzing crypto like it's some academic exercise.
Writing about corporate treasuries buying Bitcoin.
Explaining how Trump's victory changes everything.
Talking about mathematical scarcity and monetary policy. |
But when it came time to actually put money where my mouth was? I kept finding excuses. |
Too volatile. Too complicated. Too risky. |
"You know what's really risky?" my nephew said.
"Watching this whole thing happen and doing nothing about it." |
He had a point. |
Here I am, a guy who's spent 40 years telling people to position themselves ahead of major trends. And I was about to sit on the sidelines during what might be the biggest financial shift of our lifetime. |
So went to Coinbase Sunday morning. |
Set up an account. Verified my identity. Linked my bank account. |
And then I stared at the screen for about twenty minutes. |
Because here's the thing: buying crypto isn't like buying stocks. When you buy Apple, you know what Apple does. When you buy Bitcoin... well, I'm still not entirely sure I understand what I'm buying. |
That's when my nephew mentioned this guy Bryce Paul. |
"He's the one who got me started," he said. "Runs this huge crypto podcast. Wrote a book that explains everything in plain English. No tech jargon. No get-rich-quick promises. Just straight talk about what crypto actually is and how to approach it safely." |
So I looked him up. Turns out he's co-authored this book called "Crypto Revolution" that my nephew swears by. |
Not some pie-in-the-sky fantasy book. A practical guide that explains how to navigate this world without losing your shirt. |
Which is exactly what I need right now. |
Because let me be honest with you: I have no idea what I'm doing. |
I understand the big picture. I get why Bitcoin matters. I see the political and economic forces at play. |
But the actual mechanics? How to evaluate different cryptocurrencies? When to buy, when to sell, how to store them safely? |
I'm completely lost. |
That's why I ordered Paul's book. Along with his strategy guides and research reports. If I'm going to do this, I want to do it right. |
My nephew says Paul's approach is perfect for people like us. Conservative investors who want to understand what we're buying before we buy it. Who prefer careful research over blind speculation. |
"He's not going to tell you to mortgage your house and buy meme coins," my nephew explained. "He's going to show you how to allocate a small portion of your portfolio to quality projects and build from there." |
That sounds about right. |
Look, I'm not betting the farm here. $2,500 is money I can afford to lose. If Bitcoin goes to zero tomorrow, I'll still sleep fine at night. |
But if it goes to $300,000 like some experts are predicting? Well, at least I won't be the guy who understood everything except the part about actually participating. |
My nephew was right about something else too. The hardest part wasn't sending the money. It was admitting I was wrong about crypto being a fad. |
Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is change your mind when the facts change. |
The facts have definitely changed. |
Now I just need to figure out what to do with this new reality. That's where Paul's research comes in. Because the last thing I want to do is stumble around this market making rookie mistakes with real money. |
I'll let you know how it goes. |
Stay sharp, |
Glenn Short |
P.S. I told my nephew I finally bought some Bitcoin. His response? "Welcome to the 21st century, Uncle Glenn." |
Smart ass. |
But he's probably right about that too. |
P.P.S. If you're curious about the book that's helping me navigate this crypto world, you can get your own copy for $3 here. Figured I'd mention it since it's become my go-to guide for figuring all this out. |
