Let me start by wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving from the Money & Markets team.
We’re thankful for you. You’re the reason we spend our daylight hours crunching the numbers and making sense of the market.
You could buy an S&P 500 index fund and call it quits, but instead you roll up your sleeves and join me in the trenches because you enjoy the challenge (and the rewards!) of active investing. I will always be thankful for the trust you place in me the team, and I cherish every win we have together.
We’re a community of serious investors who choose to stay informed and think independently. We follow the data, and we don’t blindly follow the hype. I love that and can’t imagine doing it any other way.
The markets are closed today, so we’re spared from the usual onslaught of market noise. But before you flip on the football game or check out an early Black Friday sale, let’s take a minute to really stop and think about what an incredible time we live in.
I’m a quantitative investor. I use advanced analysis tools to comb through vast troves of data looking for relevant, tradable signals.
Had I been born a couple decades earlier, my job as I know it wouldn’t exist. The tools hadn’t been invented yet, or to the extent they had, they simply weren’t available to anyone outside of a laboratory.
Technology has a way of leveling the playing field. You and I may never have the power or financial clout of a Goldman Sachs or JPMorgan behind us. But the beauty of this era is that we don’t really need it. With research and discipline, you and I can compete with the big boys and win.
I’m thankful for the challenge.
We’ll continue the fight next week. Until then, unplug. Set your phone down. Close the laptop, and enjoy a moment with the people you hold dear.
