It's title time!

Welcome to The Group Chat, where sports and culture meet and mingle.

When the final horn blows and the confetti falls at today's 3:30 p.m. ET NCAA women's basketball national championship, it'll close the (year)book on another stellar season…and send an incredible group of seniors and super-seniors onto the pros.

  • Stars on and off the court, these women are growing the game for hoops aficionados and casual sports fans alike. So today, we're sending these gals off with some senior superlatives as they prep for the April 13th WNBA Draft. Hit it, Vitamin C.

Senior Superlatives, WBB Edition

Azzi Fudd's parents embrace her following her graduation.

♥️ Proudest WAG: Azzi Fudd, UConn Huskies

This friend of The GIST could have snagged any number of superlatives — most fashionable, best podcast, best TikTok presence — but top of mind is her status as the projected No. 1 pick in the draft…which could reunite her as teammates with her girlfriend, Dallas Wings superstar Paige Bueckers. #Pazzi stans, it's almost your time to shine.

🎵 Most likely to win a Grammy: Flau'jae Johnson, LSU Tigers

Talk about a multi-hypenate: Johnson is likely an early first-rounder who also has a thriving rap career. This is no musical side hustle — she's released a full album, Best of Both Worlds, which includes a collab with Lil Wayne. Add shoe designer and comedian to the list, and you have a true Renaissance woman.

💼 Most likely to be CEO: Kiki Rice, UCLA Bruins

Rice is an expert playmaker on the court and in the NIL game. In addition to her docuseries stardom, she boasts a ton of NIL deals with big-name companies, from Meta to TurboTax to Opill. But the most impressive of all? She signed Jordan Brand's first-ever NIL deal when she was just a freshman and has been repping the Jumpman ever since.

🤓 Always did her homework: Olivia Miles, TCU Horned Frogs

Miles could have entered the draft after last season, but she wanted one more year to sharpen her guard skills and boost her draft stock. So she transferred from Notre Dame to TCU…but not before earning not one, but two degrees from ND. In a college sports landscape where academics are increasingly taking a back seat, Miles is overprepared for her pro career and life after hoops.

The GIST's List

Final Four teams as coffee shop orders

1.

West Coast café vibes that pack a serious punch? Could only be UCLA's iced matcha latte with raspberry cold foam swirl

2.

South Carolina always brings the heat, which is why they're caffeinating with a cinnamon mocha latte with a cayenne chocolate drizzle

3.

UConn's vanilla sweet cream cold brew with blueberry foam is smooth and polished with a strong foundation, just like head coach Geno Auriemma's powerhouse

4.

An oat milk latte with honey, cinnamon, and smoked caramel evokes Texas' one-of-a-kind burnt orange

🫂 Most likely to become a motivational speaker: Lauren Betts, UCLA Bruins

A first-team All-American, Betts' resume is stellar, but even more impressive is the maturity and bravery with which she's spoken and written about her mental health challenges. Her recent Players' Tribune piece was equal parts moving and motivational, adding another awe-inspiring layer to her deep tournament run with the Bruins.

♀️ Best advocate for women's health: Cotie McMahon, Ole Miss Rebels

A shocking number of women suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (aka PCOS), yet it's still a devastatingly underdiagnosed disorder. That's why it's so impactful that McMahon, who transferred from Ohio State for her final season, spoke about how the condition impacts her game and the relief she found with appropriate, compassionate care at Ole Miss. An awareness-raising queen.

🥎 Best multi-sport athlete: Gabriela Jaquez, UCLA Bruins

Another multi-talented Bruin, Jacquez is one of many college athletes who grew up playing more than one sport…but she's one of very few that suit up for multiple Division I teams. She dusted off her cleats and subbed in as a pinch runner for UCLA softball on the sport's biggest stage, even scoring a run during UCLA's 2024 Super Regional matchup.

🎨 Most artistic: Marta Suárez, TCU Horned Frogs

Hola, Picasso! The Spaniard is an incredible painter, often incorporating hoops into her works of art, and vice versa — she customizes sneakers, sometimes including the ones she wears in-game. Simply need to cop a pair.
