Instead, I prefer to spot a fish and then cast about 6 feet in front of him and let the river's current take the fly right to him.
Some fishermen prefer using nymphs that bounce along the bottom of the river. This is what most trout eat. But you don't see the fish take the nymph, so you have to develop a certain feel for when the fish takes the nymph.
These are dry flies that I'm using. Dry flies float on the water and the trout rises to the surface to take it. With the water being so clear, you can see the fish come up and take the fly off the water's surface.
It's amazing and exciting at the same time, and I never get tired of it.
The best fishing is when you "match the hatch." That means you use the same fly as the mayflies flying over the water's surface. They land on the surface and the fish come up and snatch them, then go back down.
Not only do you need to match the hatch to be successful, but you also need to use the right size fly.
Anything too big and they will ignore it. The wrong color they will ignore. Wrong pattern and they will ignore that too.
Just the other day I had it dialed in and was taking trout like crazy. For a good 20 minutes, it was non-stop.
Then, for reasons man can't understand, the trout just stopped.
This is the frustrating part because I can still see the fish and I know they can see my fly, but they ignore it. I'm using the wrong fly or the wrong size or the wrong color.
When this happens, I switch tactics and I keep trying until I catch a fish or stop because it's too dark to see the fly anymore.
Trading stocks can be a lot like fishing.
You need to know the market conditions.
You have to have the right stock
You have to be in it at the right time.
And if you do… it's just one great trade after another.
And it can seem too easy.
Other times, almost nothing seems to work.
And it can be frustrating.
Like now.
It's time to switch tactics.
Instead of buying a stock and hoping it goes up, consider a tactic that fits the market conditions.
Like shorting stocks or buying Puts or selling Put and Call options to bring in cash.
This is what's working now.
Trade Well,
Jack
