The GIST: Rivalry Week 13 is in the books, providing some clarity on the four-team College Football Playoff (CFP) picture with conference championship games looming. Down to the wire.

No. 2 Michigan defeats Big Ten rival, No. 6 Ohio State: Thanks to their dominant defense, the Wolverines never trailed the Buckeyes on Saturday, winning "The Game" 30–24 — Michigan's third straight dub in arguably the sport's most heated rivalry.

Other CFP contenders steal narrow wins: No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Florida State both underwhelmed on Saturday but pulled away against intrastate rivals Georgia Tech and Florida, respectively. Meanwhile, No. 3 Washington just avoided disaster thanks to kicker Grady Gross' epic field goal, which kept the Dawgs' perfect season alive. Phew.

F1 season recap

🏎️ One for the record books

The GIST: Who else but Red Bull's Max Verstappen cruised to a record-setting victory in yesterday's season finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the real race was in the Constructors' Championship, which saw Mercedes edge out Ferrari for second place.

  • With the lights officially out on the 2023 season, let's look back at the past year, by the numbers.

19: The record number of races Verstappen won this season, smashing his 2022 record of 15. The Dutchman dominated his way to a third straight Drivers' Championship, which he secured back in October. It's almost unfair.

1.80: As in 1.80 seconds, the new pit stop standard set by McLaren when the papaya crew serviced fan favorite Lando Norris's car during the Qatar Grand Prix in October, edging out Red Bull's previous record of 1.82 seconds. Blink and you'll miss it.

1: There'll likely be just one vacant seat (of 20) available for the 2024 season with Williams yet to confirm if they'll re-sign rookie American Logan Sargeant after his disappointing debut on the circuit. Stay tuned for news on a possible replacement.

278: Spain's Marta García's points total en route to becoming the inaugural F1 Academy champion. García won seven of the 21 races in the all-women series' debut season and next year's calendar is already looking bigger and better. Can't wait.

🏈 Need to know: Week 12

Source: CBS/Getty Images

The GIST: From turkey legs to sheep-riding to a RedZone evacuation, this NFL Thanksgiving weekend was downright wild. With clear eyes and full bellies, let's dive into Week 12.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the first team to reach 10 wins: Last season's Super Bowl runners-up are flying high after defeating the Buffalo Bills 37–34 with a quarterback (QB) Jalen Hurts walk-off overtime touchdown yesterday.

Jets QB Aaron Rodgers eyeing a Christmas comeback: Just 10 weeks after undergoing Achilles surgery, Rodgers is reportedly targeting December 24th to miraculously return to game action, with plans to practice in early December. Santa could never.

The Jacksonville Jaguars stay hot: QB Trevor Lawrence threw a season-high 364 yards in the Jags' gritty 24–21 game-of-inches win over the Houston Texans, propelling them and their 8-3 record to third in the AFC standings.

Midwest rivalry on Monday Night Football: The surging Minnesota Vikings will host their NFC North enemy, the struggling Chicago Bears, tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET, pitting Minnesota's Josh "the Passtronaut" Dobbs against Chicago's reigning rush king Justin Fields in a must-see QB battle.

Buzzer beaters

🎓⚽ No. 1 seed BYU women's soccer scored four (!!!) second half goals in Friday's quarter-final to advance to this Friday's College Cup semis, with No. 1 Florida State, No. 1 Clemson, and No. 2 Stanford rounding out the final four.

Legendary skier Mikaela Shiffrin raced to her record-extending 90th career women's World Cup victory yesterday with a slalom win in front of the home crowd. Just GOAT things.

🏀 The NBA is investigating the Oklahoma City Thunder's rising star, 21-year-old Josh Giddey, after allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor went viral over the weekend.

🎓🏀 Say it ain't so. No. 6 UConn women's basketball star Azzi Fudd will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL and meniscus, just the latest in a brutal stretch of injuries for the Huskies.

🎓🏐 The 64-team NCAA volleyball championship bracket is officially set ahead of Thursday's tourney openers. Serves all around.

And then there were four. After this weekend's conference semifinal action, No. 1 FC Cincinnati will face the No. 3 Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup Eastern Conference Final, while the No. 4 Houston Dynamo will take on defending champion No. 3 LAFC in the West.

South Africa has withdrawn their 2027 Women's World Cup hosting bid, leaving Brazil, Belgium/Germany/Netherlands, and USA/Mexico as the final three bidders. Watching, waiting...
