Market Editorial - Chuck Crow

The Start of this Week
The open this week is 6257.00.  The market initially held support at 6251.25 and has moved up to 6272.50.   The question for the market to answer is will Monday be able to hold above Friday’s low, which was 6239.50.  It is very early but the answer so far is yes.  The market needs to survive the European opens, and well as the beginning of the US day market.  If this market fails to hold the lows from last week then watch for the July low at 6227.25.  If the August low is below the July low that is a break in trend, and could lead to a downward acceleration of the market.  However, if the market is challenging the high levels instead of the low levels then we know we have a strong support number that the market looked at, and decided not to challenge.

This Week’s Stock to look at:
Consolidated Edison, Inc. (ED) closed last week at 105.25 which was also the high of last week.  While the rest of the market was breaking down, ED was moving higher after opening the week at 101.88.  They were able to hold the low of the week at 100.47, and though they did fall back a little Thursday’s low at 101.46 the stock gapped up to Friday’s open at 104.61.  This stock could be trying to make the run from 100 to 110.  If that is the case then waiting for an entry adobe 106.00 should allow enough space for the market to keep climbing to that 110.00 area.  If this stock does move to 106.00 the risk should be the higher of either the low of this upcoming week or Friday’s low at 103.56.

Last Week’s Stocks
WBA on Friday traded down to the low of the week at 11.59 equaling the low set on July 28.  The market rallied up from that low to 11.68 to close the week.  WBA is the little engine that could and is performing well despite the action of the broader market around it.

SMCI dropped below 55.07 on Friday making a new low of the week.  That puts this stock on the sidelines.
